Recycling waste tyres offers a sustainable alternative, addressing a significant environmental challenge. Annually, 1 billion tyres reach the end of their life, with a staggering 4 billion accumulating in landfills globally. Specifically in the UK, 40 million waste tyres are produced each year, and over 300,000 tonnes are exported to Asia for environmentally uncontrolled disposal. By converting these tyres, we could create 140,000 tonnes of material for road construction and 40,000 tonnes of fuel for bitumen and asphalt manufacturing. Additionally, this process could generate 45,000 tonnes of steel for the circular economy and save over 100,000 tonnes of CO2 each year, thereby reducing the road construction industry’s reliance on fossil fuels. When processed with our technology, waste tyres become a valuable asset.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The UK waste tyre market faces several challenges:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Illegal Disposal: <\/strong>A significant portion of waste tyres are exported, often to regions where they are disposed of illegally. This undermines domestic recycling efforts and poses environmental risks.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Export:<\/strong> UK continues to export over 300,000 tonnes of end-of-life tyres per year. (2023) <\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Due to regulatory issues,<\/strong> specifically the T8 exemption regime, which permits irresponsible exports, waste tyre management becomes even more complicated.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Due to the environmental impact<\/strong>, improper disposal of tyres can lead to pollution, which includes toxic emissions from tyre fires and illegal dumping.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Our process will address these issues and is crucial for improving the sustainability and efficiency of the UK’s waste tyre recycling industry. We need to view this waste stream as an asset for reducing the carbon footprint of the UK’s road infrastructure.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
